So lately I have been dealing with a lot of anger, which is a huge trigger for me. I feel all of this built-up tension and don’t know what to do with it without resorting to self-harm. Does anyone have any ideas?
Hi. At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite…….I’ve at least tried journaling. It’s especially helpful if u type it out. Then u can bang on those ‘ol keys. More successful for me is to go outside and pick weeds. That way my yard looks good and I get to use my hands for something productive. If u have a pet, they can be a good distraction. Going out for long brisk walk might help.
But I guess the main thing would be to address the anger. If the anger can be turned down a notch, maybe the urges for u wouldn’t be so strong.
Just escape whatever is bothering you until you’re calmed down and cooled enough to go back and deal properly with your issue. pets are indeed a good distraction 🙂
When I am angry there is this need to be physical and use my aggression in a more destructive way – not the best use of my energy. However, when I get this way I throw something soft (like towels)on my bed and do this over and over. Sounds kind of simple, but it helps me from hurting myself or something else.
I also scream in my car – again something that can’t hurt me or anyone else, and no one really hears it since I am in my car.

Just some thoughts. Hope they help.

Deep breathing helps A LOT too!
Just a few things that help me when I am angry.
