Lately, my anxiety has been out of control. It’s not an every day thing, but it has been happening off and on so much that I am just at a loss of what to do. It’s the constant worrying and feeling keyed up that I am having a really really hard time with. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of their own as to how to deal with this so that I can feel more relaxed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It was just a really really hard day today (though I am proud to say that I did not SI).
Talking to try and reduce the anxiety would be something that can really help. Taking a walk. Writing in a journal to get the thoughts out of your head and onto paper is also helpful. Petting an animal is proven to reduce stress and anxiety too.
Tell yourself to S T O P. When your mind runs away into all sorts of different directions, say to yourself “STOP!”. Take 10 long, deep breaths and breathe out the anxiety.
Did you know there are foods that are naturally calming? Turkey is one, milk is another. I’m sure you could google and find more. Sometimes taking care of yourself through the foods you choose to eat can help – for example – 20 diet sodas in one day won’t calm anyone down. But perhaps you know all that already.
The key is finding what works for you. Watching a Disney/kids movie can sometimes be calming. Reading a kids book can also be good sometimes. Make a list of things that calm your anxiety so that when you are feeling at your most stressed, you can just reach for that list of things that help you and go through it.
Best wishes :). Pam
