I am new to this. My 14 year old daughter just told me about her SI. She is reaching out, and has not been doing this long. I am seeking the best (most successful) form of therapy for treating SI, and we do not live near the S.A.F.E. program facilities. Is there one approach that is more effective than others? Different therapists I’ve spoken to indicate that cognative behavioral therapy and/or Schema therapy may be more effective than DBT. Is that correct? Does hypnosis or learning self hypnosis help? Are there resources for parenting “do’s and don’ts” when it comes to enforcing practical and reasonable behavior limits unrelated to SI? I want to support her as best I can, but limits are still appropriate – I feel like I am on a tightrope in knowing what to do or not to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
