Do your parents know you self-injure? If so, you might want to mention to them that you have found a possible treatment for it — then have them visit the site, call the number, and ask questions that way. Going away to a hospital might sound or seem extreme at first, but SAFE is totally voluntary and it works best with follow-up when you get home (meaning that you continue to work with a counselor).
If you parents don’t know about your self-injury, then telling them will be the hardest and most important step. If you haven’t told your parents, maybe you can ask another trusted adult to help you approach your parents about it.
The fact you have been looking for help is an encouraging sign, but your folks might freak out when they hear “hospital”… It’s just important that they realize what SAFE is not, rather than what it is — because sending away their daughter to some *crazy hospital* or something like that is extreme. SAFE is voluntary, not for those in crisis, and you have to interview in order to be considered for admission… meaning NOT everyone makes it in or is ready for the program. You have to agree to let the professionals help you.
