Hi everyone. I wanted to post this entry about some video footage we recently uncovered at the S.A.F.E. office. Some of you may know that S.A.F.E. started back in 1984. Karen Conterio went on several talk shows, joined shortly thereafter by Wendy Lader. We are working on adding clips of those shows (Oprah Winfrey, Phil Donahue, etc.) to our website. The first three clips have just been added. To view the clips go to: http://www.selfinjury.com/

I think that it was awesome you posted this footage. It brings back a lot of memories that is for sure. I learned about SAFE from the Oprah show. From then on I knew I was not alone and that I needed help. I practically begged til I could get into treatment. I just had to wait til the hospital it was located at would accept my insurance. Then that was a turning point in my life. A major one at that. Some of the memories I got weren’t that great. I was remembering how bad off I was at that time, but I was able to quickly turn that around and say to myself…and look how far I have come. Many years now that I have not injured and so much that I have learned and am so grateful that I am able to turn that around and help others with my yahoogroup. Thanks Wendy and Karen for helping me take my life back. You’re awesome. Laura
That footage is amazing.
I had no idea that Karen was on any show.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Are you going to add the footage of the clip from November 2007 – the one shown on FOX34 by Melinda Alvarado? I know you all have the clip… 🙂 Hehe… :::blushes:::
I haven’t seen the clip since it was available online, shortly after the airing. I finally met the other girl in the video, the one with the face, and we spoke for the first time about 2 months ago. It was funny to hear her say how everyone thought the person in the shadows was really her because my friends who knew I was in the clip kept on wondering if I was also the person who showed her face later in the clip.
Participating in the video has helped me feel empowered now, however it has taken a full year for me to get to this point. I found out my boss recognized me in the clip and never said anything to me until I was no longer employed with the company, yet she didn’t treat me differently either. It felt great to be part of getting the word out and I am very thankful for SAFE helping Melinda with the clip (I think she spoke with Wendy, I can’t remember).
