cause mine just found out and she checks my arm all the time to make sure i’m not doing anything, but i was just wondering if when your parents found out if it helped or what?
When my parents first found out 3 years ago they did the same thing. My parents weren’t much help when it came to treatment, I did go see a psychologist and she was extremely helpful. My advice for you is to talk to your mom about finding a psychologist for you to talk to. There is no shame in talking to someone about the reasons that you are harming yourself. It helps to have an outside source when, its like a safe place, neutral territory. Good luck to you.
I assume my family knows, however they don’t ever do “body checks” — however, I am also an adult… but they never did it when I was younger and living at home.
My family would only bring it up during arguments, nothing else. They never offered to help and it wasn’t something we ever talked about. They act like they know and they like to make fun of how I dress (long sleeves, pants) and some of my behaviors (won’t change clothes in front of them, funny sleeping arrangements, etc).
Now as an adult, I still hide it from them and we don’t ever EVER ever talk about it. I don’t believe it is any of their business.
