i just got out of an inpatiant adolesent program that was supposed to do s.a.f.e. groups but they ended up only doing one. now i am in an outpatiant s.a.f.e. group in texas and i am finding it even harder to control my impulses. how do i make sure i get the most out of this program befor i go back home.
oh no- only one group in inpatient? 🙁 when I was in IP they combined adolescent and adult (I was 15 y/o), so I had groups all day – I can’t imagine only having one safe group!!!
I was in a SAFE outpatient group (once a week) for one and a half years. I really had to use the tools outside of group, and I really had to be motivated to do so. I spent a lot of time doing art, talking with people from my group, journaling, taking walks- doing all kinds of things. Keeping busy helps and talking to people from group (especially people who have more recovery time) helps. Good luck!!! You can do it.
We appreciate the feedback as we strive for excellence in customer service and clinical programming. All comments are followed up with administration at the various SAFE locations. Unfortunately the adolescent census drops during the summer months and rather than closing the program it is kept open, sometimes serving one or two clients at a time. The interventions are then more focused on individual and family treatment rather than group. While we see tremendous value in the group experience, we believed it would be best to deliver the care throughout the summer even in an abbreviated form. Thank you again for your feedback.
