Hi, my name is Maureen and I graduated from S.A.F.E back in ’99. To all those who read the blog, who have just gotten out of the hospital, getting ready to start the program or are still working the program, I just want you all to know that IT WORKS!! I admit when I left the hosptial I was thrown back into my hectic life and it was horrible. I was so worried that I would injure again. Infact, it wasn’t until a therpist told me if I did that was okay…it wasn’t going to be the end of the world! I was reminded that I now have the tools to make correct decisions. Life out of S.A.F.E was hard. I had to make some major changes in my life/family to make sure I wouldn’t fall back into my distructive patterns.
Now, I honestly don’t remember when the last time I injured was, and I really don’t care to remember either. I married my husband four years ago and we are in the process of adopting our first child. Life gets better each day, trust me. I never thought I would get to the day when self-injury wouldn’t be on my mind all the time. Once I was past that, I was so selfconscious about my scars. I have gotten past that too. It’s a growing process and it’s definatly worth it!
Hang in there, all of you!
