So, my therapy at school is ending pretty soon so I decided to try and find a therapist in my city that treated self-injurers. It was a very frustrating process. It seems that no therapist in Nevada wants to touch the subject. I was getting tired of looking through all the listings so I chose one office to write to asking for a referral. A Referral. I didn’t ask her if she specifically treated self-injurers. This is what she wrote:

No, I deal with traumatic stress and those who hurt because they are
victimized by unethical and unlawful behaviors of others, usually
those with more power than the victim. I am the author of Overcoming
the Devastation of Legal Abuse Syndrome dealing with the legal and
bureaucratic abuses that are all too uncommon in our culture. I see
the world around us perpetrating so much hurt, I would strongly
recommend no one add to it by injuring themselves. I am aware that
self injury is usually a response to hurt from the outside that feels
unbearable. I would love to see your energies pointed toward the
abusers.

I don’t know if I’m overreacting but htat really pissed me off. I wrote this back:

Self-injury has been something I have done in response to deep depression and overwhelming feelings. You are obviously very ignorant in this area. I don’t want to self-injure and I don’t think it’s cool or productive. I would suggest that next time someone reaches out to you, you act a little more professional in making sure you know what you’re talking about before you dispense advise. Thank you.

Was she being rude? Am I tripping? I was really offended.
