If you are in IMMEDIATE NEED OF SAFETY please call your local crisis center, 911, or go to the nearest hospital to you. Years after receiving treatment in Chicago at S.A.F.E.-Alternatives® I decided to design a support group for people who are serious about recovering. If you say to yourself “THIS HAS TO STOP!” NoFEAR-S.A.F.E._Approved is a good start. Being recovered from self-injury is when you start acting instead of reacting to situations in your life that have built up inside of you; …(more)

Hello Wendy ! I am so very happy and excited to have found this site and be a part of it ! I have never done or been a part of anything like this , so I am a bit nervous ! I attended S.A.F.E. in March of 2000 . It was all in all the best gift I ever gave to myself ( and only ! ) I would be more than happy and willing to share my experience with anybody . It was a huge step for me to take , back then , but I am so thankful that I did ! Judy
Karen & Wendy-
I just wanted to say a huge Thank you for sharing the info on the no fear web site. It has been such a help to me. All the support has been wonderful. I can’t thank you enough. It must be an awesome gift to be able to help people & make there lives better. I think your both angels!!! Thanks again Deb.
I am new here. I have struggled with self injury off and on for many years and recently it has become my addiction again because I am recovering from an eating disorder that I have had for eight years. I need to find help and hope because my emotions are in one big mess and I am depressed all the time. Cutting seems like the only solution to my problems right now. I want help. I want to move forward but I have no idea how.

Thank you so much, i am so grateful for this site. I was @ SAFE in 10/05, and was a memeber of SAFE Choices, and have been lost without that kind of support. Between here and some MySpace groups, I feel supported and know I have a place where some people ‘get it’.
AL. What are some of the myspace groups. I am interested.

I’ll give you what I have, but please be careful as you search for them, as some are very triggering, some on purpose so not.

A couple were closed down due to inappropriate content or something like that. You have to sift thru to see which are helpful, but there are some great people there as well. Hope this helps!

I started injuring myself and drinking every night for the last couple of months. I ended up in the hospital for four days and was diagnosed as having Borderline Personality Disorder. At that time, I did not want to live anymore. Now all I do is look forward to after work when I can come home and drink wine and injure myself. It feels good to injure!! I hate being alone and this helps me deal with it. At times I want to stop and other times, not so much.
To the people that commented on self injuring , drinking, not being able to stop—–My suggestion would be to find a good therapist if you dont have one already.
It is good that you are talking about it also.
There is a inpatient program called Safealternatives.com
Its in Provena Medical Center in Aurora. There may be others in more states now –Im not sure.
But the program & staff are truly amazing–Its not easy & depending on where you are at emotionally there are trying times. But the help & support you get is worth every minute of it. Id be happy to talk to anybody. I am a safe alumni.
Feel free to email me.
I am a mother of a 20 year old who has been cutting. She is on some medication now and seeing a psychiatrist. She wants to stop but needs some helps. We need some suggestions on distractions and redirection when she feels the need to cut. We live in southern Utah, if anyone knows of any support groups in this area. I work for some therapists but it isn’t something they have dealt with alot in this area. I would appreciate any helps!! Thank you!!!!!

How inspiring! will come back….
How do I become a part of the Yahoo group? And do I have to have gone to the program to be eligible? I haven’t, and for financial (and distance) reasons, can’t. But the group sounds really good. I’ve been harming for about 15 years now, and just can’t keep doing this anymore. I really want to quit. For the first time in about three years, I’ll be seeing a psychologist again (in November), so hoping she’ll be able to help too. But I really do want to stop, and have been using every safe alternative I’ve been able to find. Some help, some don’t. Am hoping that the group is something I can join, that can help me the rest of the way.
