Great turnout, thanks to all those who showed up @ the premiere of CUT Teens and Self Injury. First time producer Wendy Schneider received gobs of great feedback. A film worthy of HBO attention, three thumbs up for sure.
I want to see it, however, couldn’t go cause it was my 22nd birthday and went to the jelly belly factory with my twin and a good friend, and than went bike riding with my two sisters for two hours, than bible study. So I missed it. anyway we can get ahold of it in the future?

It sounds like an interesting film. I am sorry I have not scene it.
I find it very interesting that most if not all films and or new reports are on TEENS who cut . . don’t get me wrong, I understand there are a HUGE number of teens who injure, but I have yet to see or hear about adults who cut. We are out there. Not to isolate those adults who cut, but we seem to be forgotten . . . . that being said there is a great possibly maybe even a greater shame in being a mature and intelligent adult, many times w/ a husband and children who still cut . . . .I can only speak for myself, but when I see many films like this I feel even more ‘freakish’ and more isolated . .
I do agree and feel very similarly. I believe it is a teen epidemic.
I isolate, owning my feeling like a freak and ashamed. Being an adult, is difficult, and I often feel very alone in my shame, and like I should have just gotten over this by now… (just like depression & Bipolar). I think it(we) need to be taken into consideration. I think it will be found to be a bigger issue that many think, I think there will be many more out there then originally thought. …hhmmmm might a distorted relief for some – for me – to know there are others.
I also agree. My new therapist is an adolescent specialist with some knowledge of self-injury. i don’t know I feel weird having such a therapist, but I have to at least try it out. I am a semi-older self injurer in recovery. I know there are a lot of self injurers who are older than me and we are definitely over looked by the larger media.
I find this all very interesting. Not long ago there was a local tv segment on teens who cut …it was over dramatized ..kind of offensive it was WAY over sensationalized, you know what I mean. Well, I called the tv station and complained. I ended up talking to the editor and told her how I found it a bit offensive to portray this as a teen only issue, when here I was a 45 year old mother, teacher and community leader and I am a recovering cutter. She was ‘shocked’ and wanted to do a story on me . . . .being a young elementary school teacher I was concerned about how I might be portrayed and perceived.
I regret saying no and hope I will be offered another opportunity to share my story – I think we ‘older’ folks have an intriguing story to tell that would be of value to others if told. I know I would have found alot of comfort, courage and strength to search our recovery A LOT EARLIER if I had known other’s journey.
Kimmy When did that get aired? What tv station as I am a wisconsin person as we have talked myself. I would like to see that, and be interested in which station is willing to do a story as such.

Just wanted to say, while I haven’t seen the film, I probably wouldn’t. Yet another film/documentary about teenagers that harm. I’m 37 and have been harming since 1992. I hardly ever find any television shows or movies that talk about adults who harm. I was shocked when looking up self injury on WebMd, and saw articles they had, that said it wasn’t a totally teen problem. I even went and emailed them and complimented them on having their facts straight. It’s hard to even find some sites online that are about/or have stuff about adults that harm. It sucks to be a 37 year old wife and mother that harms. And my son just recently learned about harming in school from a presentation they did (which of course only talked about teens doing it, but at least they are giving them some info on it). When I was a teenager, the schools not only didn’t say a word about harming, but didn’t even have helplines to call for support. At least kids now-a-days have helplines, and support places on the internet to go to for some help. Sorry to rant and rave!
